Financial Inclusion & the Future of Work

19th EMN Annual Conference  |  15-17 June 2022
Brussels, Belgium

The European Microfinance Network (EMN), based in Brussels, is an organisation representing the principal actors of the microfinance and financial inclusion sector in Europe. EMN, in partnership with Inpulse and microStart, will organise its 19th Annual Conference in Brussels on 15-16-17 June 2022.

Organised every year since 2004, the EMN Annual Conference is a meeting of minds and ideas, and the perfect opportunity for industry experts to network, exchange experiences, learn, and connect with representatives and stakeholders from the sector, and even to lay the groundwork for successful partnerships going forward.

Two years of a game-changing pandemic, the advent of artificial intelligence and other new technologies, together with innovative EU policies regarding youth and social economy, all cast a bright light on the truly pivotal moment microfinance is finding itself in. Anticipation and forward-thinking will be instrumental mindsets in carving a path for the sector and let it reach its full potential in the fight for financial inclusion. And this is precisely what the 19th EMN Annual Conference will aim to foster.

The sheer number of missing profiles in the entrepreneurial landscape, as highlighted in the latest edition of the OECD’s “Missing entrepreneurs”, must make us ask ourselves how financial inclusion practitioners can serve this major societal shift that will see less salaried employment, more self-employment, and the urgent need to take into account all vulnerable groups and the challenges brought by climate change.
Finally back to its 2-day format, with pre-conference activities the day before, the conference will look at the current state-of-play, find out what our focus should be at EU level, discuss the role of MFIs and other financial inclusion actors are destined to play in the near future, and much more.

Through a carefully crafted mix of high-level addresses, concrete down-to-business workshops, networking times, and inspiring performances, the 2022 EMN Annual Conference will once more bring the sector together for the highest profile event on financial inclusion and microfinance in the region. Around 200 participants are expected at the conference, coming from all over Europe and beyond, including representatives from European institutions, investors, microfinance institutions, NGOs and fintech experts.
